The Covid-19 Deanshanger Community Response Project (CRP)

Deanshanger Parish Council has established a Community Response Team (CRT) to coordinate parish-wide community support during the Covid-19 emergency. The team has set up a project to link up those who have volunteered to provide support with those who have need and have requested support.

Those needing support may include residents who are vulnerable, self-isolating, key-workers or those who are suffering from the Covid-19 virus. The types of support that can be provided include grocery shopping, collecting medication, posting mail and telephone calls to someone who is feeling isolated. The project will not provide advice or information on health care issues nor is it intended to pass on information being issued from Government or Public Health England. Where a resident needs and has requested support, the team will allocate a volunteer.

DEANSHANGER COMMUNITY RESPONSE - NEXT STEPS

Dear Residents

As we move towards release from unprecedented restrictions in these extraordinary times, the Parish Council would like to update you on an amazing phenomenon which occurred when we needed it most.

Under our umbrella but wholly run and operated by you - the community, our volunteer scheme for people in the village who needed help was an unmitigated success.

Starting well ahead of other organisations, we put into place a very simple and easy to operate 'Buddy System' where volunteers would be paired up with people needing help nearby.

And WOW... Did you help!

Over 100 people volunteered. We actually had roughly double the people volunteering to help as opposed people in need.

So, this is a thank you to the operators of our scheme: Chris Stevenson, Jonathan Heap, Cllr Anne Thompson and our Clerk, Teresa Floyd.

But most of all, the real heroes are yourselves!

Thank YOU!

You did everyone proud. Collecting prescriptions, doing essential shopping or just lending an ear.

However, we shouldn't just let such a good thing fade away...

As we come out of our confinement, we believe that a more permanent arrangement for a village wide volunteer system would be a really great idea. We don't know what is around the corner and it would be fantastic if we stayed prepared.

Hopefully what you all did was manageable and not too much out your way so we ask now to keep your support going for such a successful service.

Please could you answer this survey so that we can find out more about how you might be willing to help and what we should offer on such a scheme?

Thank you in advance for your help, generosity, kindness and time.
