Alan lived in Deanshanger for his first 12 years, attending the Primary School, where his mother taught. The family moved to Stony Stratford, Alan attended the school at Wolverton. He served an apprenticeship in Wolverton Works and studied at Wolverton and Bedford Colleges to achieve a Higher National Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He left British Rail in the mid 1980's to progress in a career within Engineering and Project Management in the private sector of the rail industry.
Alan move to Old Stratford with his wife Maureen in 1971. Their family also resides in the village.
Following early retirement, Alan focused on community and charity work within Old Stratford and Deanshanger. He is a councillor at Old Stratford Parish Council, on the Old Stratford Community Hall Management Committee (a Parish Charity) and a Steward at the Methodist Chapel at Deanshanger.
There is a significant amount of commonality in the issues and needs of both Parish Councils at Deanshanger and Old Stratford and the subsequent liaison and representation at District and County Council levels. Alan will be a valuable link between the two Parish Councils.
He also aims to provide an increased awareness and support of services and charities serving those of all age groups who are less well off or have specific needs. Where these needs are not currently being met, to lobby for assistance from the local authorities and/or voluntary services.
Also to assist organisations within the village that support and help others within the community of Deanshanger
Above all, for Deanshanger to be a well looked after village – one we can all be proud of by helping to find solutions to some of the basic issues and encourage a real community we can all be proud of.
